Banned Book Week: A Week Of Celebrating Free Speech

For an entire week, the Clinton Book Shop will be celebrating the fundamental right of Free Speech.

Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read, will be held the week of September 24th in 2017. For this year’s celebration, the coalition of organizations that sponsors Banned Books Week will emphasize the importance of the First Amendment, which guarantees our inherent right to read.

We begin our celebration by inviting you to participate in a "Virtual Read Out" We will set up a "Video Booth" inside the Clinton Book Shop and invite you to read from a banned or challenged book. It is simple. Choose a favorite banned/challenged book and discuss what the book meant to you and how you would feel if someone prevented you from reading it. The video should be no longer than three minutes long. These videos will be submitted for inclusion on a YouTube channel dedicated to the event.
