A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN AND POETRY
Reading & Open Mic
April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate The Clinton Book Shop is joining with Riverside Coffee & Tea in presenting a Celebration of Women in Poetry. We will feature two gifted and accomplished writers and open the mic up for those who want to share their poetry for... all to enjoy.
Our Featured Poets:
MaryAnn L. Miller, M.Ed. MFA, has been the Resident Book Artist at the Experimental Printmaking Institute, Lafayette College since 2001. Her work is in the National Museum of Women in the Arts and other special collections. Her poetry has been published in Certain Circuits and in the Philadelphia Poets Anthology 2011. Miller is a recipient of the Petracca Award Special Mention 2012. Miller debut book of poems, Locus Mentis, has been published by PS Books, the small press division of Philadelphia Stories magazine.
She has been a contributing writer on women in the arts for Garden State Woman magazine, and her feature on artist Willie Cole was published in the International Review of African American Art.
Most recently, through her work at EPI, Miller has designed and bound a limited edition artist book of the works of Burmese writer Khet Mar who had been a political prisoner and is now Writer-in Residence at City of Asylum in Pittsburgh, PA.
Vasiliki Katsarou is the author of the just-published poetry collection, Memento Tsunami. She is a 2010 Pushcart Prize nominee, and curates the Panoply Books Reading Series in Lambertville, NJ.
In 2009, Vasliki co-edited and wrote the introduction to the anthology Eating Her Wedding Dress: A Collection of Clothing Poems (Ragged Sky Press). She holds an MFA from Boston University and she wrote and directed the award-winning 35mm short film, Fruitlands 1843. Her poem, “Seven Women,” was recently featured on the national poetry website, Poetry Daily (http://www.poets.com/).
Last month, Vaslikik was one of the poets featured, alongside Gerald Stern and C.K. Williams among others, in Capital Voices, a gathering of notable voices in New Jersey arts at The Trenton City Museum.
