Don't Give Up on That Dog! is a true story that chronicles the many challenges faced while blending Cooper, a shy German Shepherd Dog, into a new family dynamic. Told with honesty and humor, this photo-filled journal about life with man and woman's best friend will inspire new and future dog owners to build the right foundation with their canine companion and, ultimately, form an unbreakable bond.
From her first dog, Heidi, an energetic German shorthaired pointer, through seven much-loved golden retrievers, Ms. Phillips’ New Jersey home is now shared with an odd canine couple–Cooper, an enormous German shepherd, and Ozzie, a mild-mannered Shih Tzu. Ruling the roost is Meeko, a 9-year-old Siamese cat that showers affection on everyone and everything–except the dogs. Not long ago, Ms. Phillips and her mother, Julia Waugh, enjoyed breeding and showing Maine coon cats.
Today, when not tending to her family and pets, Ms. Phillips is a freelance technical writer with many published works to her credit. An expert in the field of document imaging solutions, Ms. Phillips had the privilege to work in Tokyo, Japan, with one of the world’s leading developers of office technology. That was in 2007, just as the economic downturn began to impact worldwide markets. With her penchant for writing, Ms. Phillips turned to chronicling the many memorable moments raising a dog named Cooper.
Praise for DON’T GIVE UP ON THAT DOG!
“This book’s value lies in the meticulous chronicling of all the different experiences a new dog owner can go through in a straightforward, clear way. And since the author is not pretending to be a professional dog trainer, the reader is able to place themselves in her shoes. The story is honest and reflects the wisdom of not giving up on a dog when one encounters difficulties.” ~Brother Christopher Savage, Author and Head Dog Trainer, The Monks of New Skete
“People will relate to this book, a story of the average dog owner searching for ways to direct, harness and control a dog’s energy–in a positive way. I would recommend this book for just the tips and advice alone. However, the events that unfold will make readers smile, as they see the many parallels. Though the book’s title is, DON’T GIVE UP ON THAT DOG, it could easily be subtitled, You are not alone.”
